It all started some years ago when my wife decided that I needed a hobby, so she brought me a beginners woodworking course at Holmesglen TAFE. I enjoyed that, so I immediately enrolled in the intermediate course and subsequently the advanced one.
At that stage, the contents of my shed consisted of a hammer, a few chisels and some spanners; so I set about acquiring some power tools. I started off with a Triton WorkCentre, a router and a few other pieces, and as my skills improved, I have steadily upgraded the equipment and extended the shed.
A few years ago I completed a box making course at Woodcraft Manningham, which I really enjoyed, so I decided to join the box making group at the club.
Although boxes are not the only thing I make in my shed, it is the activity that I enjoy the most. What appeals to me about box making is the exactness of it - there are many projects one can make where it does not matter if things are a millimetre or two out, for example a bookcase, but in box making a millimetre is a lot! There are also many interesting techniques used.
